How we put a yard to bed for winter
- We drop the mowing height for the final cut. Down to around 5 cm (2 inches), so the grass cannot fold over and mat under the snow.
- We clear every leaf off the grass. Raked or blown out of the lawn and the corners where the wind piles them, then bagged for yard waste collection.
- We cut back the perennials and clear the beds. Soft perennials that collapse into mush get cut back and the dead growth comes out of the beds. Sturdy seed heads can stay standing over winter if you like the look.
- We leave the lawn bare and clean. Nothing sitting on the grass, no piles waiting for spring, and a quick word about anything else, hoses, furniture, soccer nets, that should come off before snow.
When to book a fall cleanup in Durham Region
